Alongside its teaching and research activities, the Department is strongly committed to the Third Mission, understood as the set of activities aimed at disseminating, applying, and enhancing the knowledge generated within the academic context, with the goal of making a tangible contribution to the economic, social, and cultural development of the community.

The Department’s actions are directed towards strengthening the dialogue between the university and society, promoting initiatives that foster the growth and innovation of businesses, institutions, and local territories. In this regard, DIEC seeks to consolidate and expand its knowledge transfer activities through specialised consultancy, collaborations with public and private entities, and public engagement initiatives. The Department also promotes activities supporting academic entrepreneurship as well as initiatives related to economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
