Quality Assurance System

The Department of Economics and Business Studies is committed to fostering a culture of quality that is conscious, transparent, and efficient across its institutional activities in teaching, research, and third mission engagement. It systematically monitors, evaluates, and continuously enhances the effectiveness of its undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, as well as its doctoral programmes, in alignment with the quality assurance systems of the University of Genoa and in compliance with the national AVA (Self-Assessment – Evaluation – Accreditation) framework established by the National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR).

Organisational Structure of the Departmental QA System

The Quality Assurance process of the Department of Economics (DIEC) is supported by an organisational structure designed to effectively achieve its strategic objectives:

In relation to teaching: the Teaching Committee coordinates activities related to the QA processes implemented by the various degree programmes offered by the Department, through the preparatory work of their respective QA subcommittees. It supports the definition of objectives, strategic policies, and related actions, monitors the achievement of these objectives, and identifies potential areas for improvement.

In relation to research: the Research Committee plays a central role in the process by contributing to the definition of strategic objectives and actions, monitoring their achievement, identifying strengths, and proposing measures for improvement.

In relation to the third mission: the Delegate for the Third Mission contributes to the definition of objectives, analyses and monitors relevant data, and proposes measures to strengthen these activities.

For all three areas outlined above:

The Head of Department ensures that quality policies are integrated into the Department’s strategic planning, oversees and supervises the correct implementation of the QA system by all its stakeholders.

The Quality Assurance Manager (RAQ) oversees the QA process, maintaining constant dialogue with degree programmes, doctoral programmes, and various committees. The RAQ provides guidance, support, and oversight to QA process stakeholders for the enhancement of teaching, research, and third mission activities, acts as a key liaison with the University’s Quality Assurance Unit, and promotes a culture of quality processes within the Department.

The processes of planning, monitoring, and review of teaching, research, and third mission activities are reported by the Head of Department to the Department Council, which discusses and formally approves them.
