Vision
The Department of Economics and Business Studies (DIEC) aims to be a dynamic academic environment, committed to teaching, research, and third mission activities, with the goal of educating students and researchers capable of addressing current and future challenges in an ever-evolving socio-economic context.
The Department also fosters dialogue between academia, businesses, and institutions, contributing to the socio-economic, managerial, and scientific development of the region, in full alignment with the vision of the University of Genoa.
The Department is a community that strives to create a working environment characterized by widespread organizational well-being, where each individual is valued and recognized for their contribution to the institution.
Mission
In the field of teaching, the Department of Economics and Business Studies aims to provide a comprehensive education attentive to students’ needs, integrating economic, business, quantitative, and legal knowledge appropriate for their entry into the labor market, and preparing them to address future personal and professional challenges. The Department remains constantly up to date with teaching methodologies and with developments in the economic and business environment, incorporating these changes into its curricula. It also pays close attention to the specific characteristics of the local area and its economic and entrepreneurial fabric. Internationalization, both incoming and outgoing, plays a significant role and is promoted through a variety of academic exchange initiatives with foreign universities.
In the field of research, the Department fosters the development of high-quality, high-impact scientific contributions by encouraging the creation of research groups that strengthen collaboration among the various disciplinary areas within the Department, in an interdisciplinary perspective open to cross-fertilization. The Department actively supports the international dimension of research, participation in interdisciplinary research projects, and collaborations and partnerships with public and private institutions. The research environment is open and inclusive, supporting scholars—particularly early-career researchers—in engaging with scientific debate and building international networks.
In the area of third mission activities, the Department focuses on transferring economic, business, and quantitative knowledge to society, contributing to the promotion of entrepreneurship, the improvement of managerial practices and economic policies, and the strengthening of the population’s economic culture. Its initiatives aim to foster dialogue between the academic world and the socio-economic sphere, positioning the Department as a point of reference for the advancement of businesses, institutions, communities, and territories.
In pursuing its mission, the Department relies, from an organizational standpoint, on a cohesive community in which faculty and administrative-technical staff work in constant collaboration to achieve the institution’s goals.
